Education and Consultation

Training for Professionals. Talks for Communities. Support That Spreads Evidence-Based Care.

At CBTTexas™, our team is passionate not only about helping our clients heal, but about equipping others to support them well. We provide education, consultation, and outreach to clinicians, schools, medical providers, educators, and families seeking to better understand and apply evidence-based treatment for anxiety, OCD, eating disorders, and related concerns.

Whether you're a therapist navigating a complex case, a school counselor facing student mental health challenges or a parent group looking to understand anxiety or the hidden costs of dieting, our goal is the same: to make science-backed, practical strategies accessible to everyone who needs them.

Clinical Training & Consultation

As former full-time academic faculty, program directors, and supervisors, we are deeply committed to training the next generation of evidence-based providers. We provide:

  • Case consultation for clinicians working with OCD, anxiety, eating disorders, personality-related concerns, and complex comorbidity
  • Supervision and mentorship for graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and early-career therapists
  • Program development consultation for IOP/PHP and outpatient teams building OCD/anxiety or eating disorder programs
  • Didactic trainings and workshops on topics such as:
    • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD
    • SPACE for childhood anxiety and OCD
    • FBT, CBT-E, and CBT-AR for Eating Disorders
    • Schema Therapy: When CBT Is Falling Short
    • RO-DBT for Disorders of Overcontrol

Trainings are interactive, practical, and always grounded in what research and real-world clinical experience tell us actually works.

Community Talks & Outreach

We also provide engaging, accessible presentations to schools, pediatricians, parent groups, and community organizations. Topics are tailored for non-clinical audiences and focus on helping families and educators better understand and support youth with mental health challenges.

Common presentation topics include:

  • Understanding OCD and anxiety in children and teens
  • Assessment and treatment of eating disorders in school settings
  • Supporting kids with school refusal or separation anxiety
  • The difference between accommodating and supporting your anxious child
  • What evidence-based therapy looks like (and what to look for in a provider)
  • Parenting anxious or perfectionistic kids
  • Emotionally overcontrolled youth: what educators and caregivers need to know
  • Eating Disorders 101: a crash course for medical providers

We love working with schools, pediatric practices, independent counselors, parent education groups, and local nonprofits to bring high-quality mental health education into the community.

Why Learn With Us?

Dr. Zach Appenzeller is the Founding Director of the UTHealth Houston Center for Eating Disorders, former Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at McGovern Medical School, and recipient of the Dean’s Teaching Excellence Award. He has taught graduate-level courses, supervised interdisciplinary trainees, and consulted across medical, school, and community systems nationwide. He specializes in eating disorders, anxiety disorders/OCD (especially when they co-occur), with additional expertise in long-standing clinical presentations and cases that have shown limited response to prior treatment. He is passionate about program development and the thoughtful integration of evidence-based treatments across levels of care and comorbidities, which led him to develop the FBT-Anchored Modular (FAM) Model for adolescents with eating disorders.

Dr. Allie Appenzeller is a former Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), where she served as Founding Director of the ARPA School Anxiety & School Refusal Program, and was recipient of the Outstanding Contribution to Psychology Intern Training and Development Award. She continues to serve as Adjunct Clinical Faculty in BCM's OCD and Related Disorders Program. She specializes in ERP and SPACE for OCD and anxiety disorders across the lifespan and has trained, supervised, and consulted dozens of clinicians and school-based teams throughout her career.

Together, we offer presentations, training, and consultation emphasizing both the science and art of evidence-based treatment, always delivered with warmth and clarity. Whether you’re a provider seeking case consultation, a program looking to upskill your team, or a school in need of a thoughtful, engaging presentation, we’d love to support you! Reach out to schedule a call or request a training. We’re happy to talk through your needs and see how we can help.
